Our Story
Living Faith Community Church of God (LFCCOG) was founded on a spirit of new beginnings and hope for the future. In 2017, following a divine call, Pastors Jason and Nicola moved from Toronto to Calgary to start this journey. The church began in the Evanston community at home with the Edwards family and quickly grew to welcome more families.
Early gatherings centered around Friday Night Bible Study (FNBS), leading to the official launch on December 13, 2019. The church name was chosen with input from the community at the Country Hills Library. During the COVID-19 pandemic, LFCCOG adapted by moving services online and seeking guidance through prayer. In-person worship resumed in February 2022 and, after meeting at several venues, the church found its home at 6439 2nd Street SE in September 2023.
LFCCOG welcomes everyone to join in worship, connection, and the pursuit of following Jesus together
A Diverse and Inclusive Community
We understand each person comes with different talents, learning styles, and identities. And we celebrate that difference because our diversity is our strength.
Community is at the heart of Living Faith. It shapes who we are and how we serve – driven by a shared commitment to make every person welcome, valued, and included. We follow the example of Acts 2:42–46, where the early church lived, shared, and grew together – going house to house, sharing resources, and caring for one another.
When people belong, we become stronger and wiser together. We are a diverse, action‑oriented community working to make the world better—starting right here in our own backyard.
Defining
Values & Strategies
Core Values
- Christ-Centered – Jesus is Lord over all we are and do. (Col. 1:15–20)
- Biblical Authority – God’s Word directs our beliefs and practices. (2 Tim. 3:16–17; Ps. 119:105)
- Spirit Empowered – We depend on the Holy Spirit for transformation and mission. (Acts 1:8; Gal. 5:22–23; 1 Cor. 12:4–7)
- Discipleship & Formation – We help people follow Jesus in community, becoming more like Him. (Matt. 28:19–20; Eph. 4:11–13)
- Authentic Community – We share life with love, hospitality, accountability, and unity. (Acts 2:42–47; Jn. 13:34–35)
- Worship & Prayer – We seek God’s presence with reverence, praise, and intercession. (Ps. 95:6; Acts 4:31)
- Mission & Compassion – We serve neighbours and nations with the gospel in word and deed. (Luke 4:18; Mic. 6:8; Matt. 25:35–40)
- Integrity & Generosity – We steward time, talents, and resources with holiness and open hands. (1 Pet. 1:15–16; 2 Cor. 9:6–8)
Strategy
- Gather (Worship & Word): Sunday worship, prayer, teaching of the apostles’ doctrine. (Acts 2:42)
- Grow (Formation & Groups): Life groups, discipleship cohorts, classes; learn & obey Jesus together. (Matt. 28:20; Eph. 4:12–13)
- Go (Witness & Service): Evangelism, outreach, mercy ministries, missions. (Acts 1:8)
- Give (Generosity & Gifts): Shared resources, serving with spiritual gifts, sacrificial generosity. (Acts 2:44–45; 1 Cor. 12)
This is what we understand the rhythm of both Acts 2 and the Great Commission to include.
Lead Pastor
Jason & Nicola Martin
Jason’s journey in ministry began in Jamaica, where as a young man he sensed God’s call on his life and pursued that calling through study at Bethel Bible College of the Caribbean. He and Nicola planted their first church at the Juan-de-Bolas and Point Hill New Testament Church of God before relocating to Toronto and eventually to Western Canada — where Living Faith Community Church of God was born, quite literally, in their living room.
Today, Jason serves not only as the founding and Lead Pastor of Living Faith, but as a recognized leader across the broader Church of God movement. He is an ordained Bishop and minister (since 2008), a member of the National Executive Council for Western Canada, and the District Overseer for the Calgary District of Churches. Over the years he has served in virtually every dimension of church life — as Senior Pastor, Assistant Pastor, District Youth Pastor, and in Christian Education, Camp Ministry, Technology, and Chaplaincy roles, both in Jamaica and across Canada. Beyond pastoral ministry, Jason brings over 25 years of experience as an IT professional and is a Commissioner of Oaths and Marriage Officer for Alberta.
At the heart of everything is family. Jason and Nicola have been married for 20 years and are the proud parents of two sons, Elijah and Eliam. His greatest passion remains simple: serving God’s people.
